Thompson Twins – Nothing In Common (US 12″ Maxi Single)

“Nothing In Common” was a 1986 movie starring Tom Hanks, and a song from British pop group Thompson Twins which was included in the film’s soundtrack.

The track was written by band members Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie.

It made a mild impression on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching fifty-four the week of September 13, 1986.

This is my favorite Thompson Twins track, along with “Hold Me Now” and “Get That Love”.

I love the work on the remixes, it adds more punch while respecting the melancholic/distant feel of the song. I do like the original version as well, but it has the typical Thompson Twins production which sometimes seemed somehow weak, if you will. Needless to say this is purely subjective.

“Revolution” was a cover of a 1968 Beatles song, included in Thompson Twins‘ 1985 “Here’s To Future Days” album. (there were several Beatles versions of “Revolution“, read more about it here). Thompson Twins covered the faster “rock” version.

Nile Rodgers produced the album version along with Tom Bailey.

The remixes for all tracks on this 12″ single were in charge of John Morales & Sergio Munzibai.
