“Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot” was the first single taken from Sting’s “Mercury Falling” album. It flopped in the USA, reaching number 86 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1996. It got better response in the UK, where it reached number 15.

The track was written, arranged and composed by Sting. It was produced by himself and Hugh Padgham. The two already had a history working together. Padgham co-produced The Police’s “Ghost In The Machine” and “Synchronicity” albums, as well as Sting’s “The Soul Cages” and “Ten Summoners Tales”.

These remixes were created by Marc Auerbach and Ian Green, aka A&G Division. They represent house music in the 90′s very well: always energetic, lots of claps, partly uplifting with gospel choir vocals, at times darker sounding, with progressive house synth sounds.

The art direction and design of the single’s sleeve was trusted to Jeri Heiden, a renowned graphic designer who among countless projects, worked on the packaging of classic albums from Madonna, Cher, Steve Winwood, The Eagles, A-ha, and the list goes on. Jeri is co-creative director at SMOG Design.
