Patrick Swayze – She’s Like The Wind

Patrick Swayze passed away yesterday at age 57. A little tribute from Step To The Beat.
Although he is mainly known for his acting career, Swayze had a hit sog back in 1987: “She’s Like The Wind”, featuring singer Wendy Fraser.
Swayze and Stacy Widelitz co-wrote the song in 1984, originally for the soundtrack of Grandview, U.S.A.. However, the song was not used in that film. During production of Dirty Dancing in 1986, Swayze played the demo for the producers and director. They loved it and passed it on to Jimmy Ienner, the soundtrack’s executive producer. It was recorded for the soundtrack in November 1986, with Michael Lloyd producing (Lloyd also produced Belinda Carlisle’s debut solo album).
The song, like the film in which it was featured, was a success, reaching #3 on Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on Adult Contemporary, and was a hit around the world. It is still in circulation on radio. The soundtrack album was #1 for 19 weeks.
I remember the video for the song rotating on MTV and VH1 the first time I visited the USA back in December 1987.
Swayze’s big movie roles were mainly in “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost”, but my favorite role of his was as Miss Vida Boheme in “To Wong Foo Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar“. He was hilarious!
Rest in peace.
